What is my flood zone by address?
You can find your flood zone by address using FEMA's National Flood Hazard Layer -- a free, public database that maps every parcel in the US. Enter your address in the tool below and we will query FEMA's maps in real time to return your exact flood zone code, risk level, and what it means for insurance. No account or fee required.
But a general answer can't tell you YOUR risk -- the only way to know is to check your address.
Answered using FEMA National Flood Hazard Layer + US Census geocoding data.
What data does the address check use?
This tool uses two official US government data sources, both free and public: (1) the US Census Bureau Geocoder, which converts your address to precise latitude/longitude coordinates, and (2) FEMA's National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) MapServer, which returns the flood zone for that precise point. No third-party data, no proprietary analysis -- just the same source your lender and insurer use.
What if my address is not found?
The Census Geocoder sometimes cannot match abbreviated or informal addresses. Try adding a full city and state ('123 Main St, Springfield, IL'), or include your ZIP code. If the address still does not resolve, the property may be too new to be in the Census database, or the address may be formatted differently than the official record. Your county assessor's website usually has the official address format.
How is this different from FEMA's own site?
FEMA's Map Service Center (msc.fema.gov) provides the authoritative Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), but the interface requires navigating a multi-step map viewer and downloading PDFs. This tool queries the same underlying NFHL data through FEMA's public API and returns a direct, plain-English answer for your address -- no map navigation, no PDFs, no technical training required.
